Once a year, a small town in Lower Saxony transforms into a Scottish stronghold. The Highland Games have been held there annually since 1998, making it the oldest event of its kind in Germany. This year, bagpipe music will fill the air around the colorful stalls selling Scottish handicrafts, whisky stands, and show stages for the 25th time.
Visitors can expect choral singing, Scottish and Irish dancing, numerous stalls selling jewelry, arts and crafts, Scottish clothing and accessories.
A wide range of options is available for thirsty palates: from refreshing beer to non-alcoholic beverages. Both sweet treats and savory dishes satisfy visitors’ appetites, both large and small.
Whisky stalls are also a must, where you can enjoy a sip or two or sample a variety of whiskeys.
Sunday is all about the traditional Highland Games with their quintessentially Scottish disciplines. Participants compete in the thrilling log toss, the grueling tug-of-war, and the impressive stone throwing. A day full of competitive spirit and traditional elegance awaits guests. The Highland Games offer an unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself in Scottish culture.
