Are you a castle enthusiast or someone who loves medieval history and architecture? Join us for an exceptional trip to explore three stunning castles in three different countries.
Sedan Castle (France)
Perched on a rocky promontory by the river Meuse, the Castle of Sedan boasts six centuries of history. In 1424, Evrard III de La Marck built the first castle after acquiring the lordship of Sedan from his brother-in-law, Guillaume de Braquemont. This triangular castle was significantly enlarged by Evrard’s descendants, transforming it into “the Giant of Sedan,” the largest fortified castle in Europe, covering 35,000 square meters. Classified as a historical monument, a tour of Sedan Castle reveals its rich history and impressive architecture.
Bouillon Castle (Belgium)
Chateau de Bouillon, the most significant historic site in Bouillon, dates back to at least 988 CE. The site has likely hosted a castle since the Gallo-Roman era. The castle changed hands multiple times, most notably when Godfrey V sold it to fund the First Crusade. After he died in Jerusalem, the castle underwent several renovations and expansions. Eventually, it became part of Belgium after the Belgian Revolution. Its storied past and majestic structure make it a must-see.
Vianden Castle (Luxembourg)
Constructed between the 11th and 14th centuries on Roman and Carolingian foundations, Vianden Castle is one of Europe’s most beautiful feudal residences from the Romanesque and Gothic periods. Restored in 1977 to preserve its historical integrity, the castle is now a monument of European significance and is considered one of the 21 most beautiful castles in the world.
